SERIES: Homestuck
CANON POINT: On his way to the Green Sun, right after receiving a bucket to the head and flipping the fuck out over shit that wasn't even happening. Because this is Karkat. He will flip the fuck out over anything.APPEARANCE:Who's this Douchebag?
Lookit those nubby little horns. Mister Bulgereek Nookstain SOMEONE MAKE THIS STUPID PRICK SMILE
PERSONALITY: Karkat, in a nutshell, is a cranky, whiny, teenage boy who hates himself. It's actually a pretty standard outline for teenagers like him. But unlike kids who act whiny and annoying and self loathing because it's all the rage, Karkat has a reason. It's because he's different. Not because he's a geek and he has interests that make him weird according to the rest of his generation. Hell, look at his species. He's a troll. He comes from a violent, murderous, and rampaging society of aliens. What makes Karkat different, is that he's a mutant, and he's incredibly self-conscious about it, and in turn--he takes it out on everyone around him.
But what is it about Karkat that makes him so different? He looks the same as the rest of his species. Grey skin, horns, tired expression, drab clothing. What is it? It's his blood. Karkat knows his blood is not normal, in fact--he's genetically filthy in his mind. His blood is a bright, blaringly obvious candy red. A genetic trait that is practically unheard of among his species. As a species that bases its hierarchy on a blood color-based caste system, his blood is the lowest of the low, a blood color so beneath others that it makes him a freak. And he detests it. Karkat hates himself, based on this simple insecurity.
But he tries to make up for it in methods that are understandable. He takes initiative, and he plays the role of leader and he acts out, trying to come across as an authority figure to all his friends. He's constantly yelling and flipping out at them in order to try and assert himself as being above what he is.
However, all this does is make him look like a douchebag, instead of the confident prick he wants to come across as. He just winds up making enemies with his friends from time to time, and he frequently seems like he's trying to pick fights with his friends. Because of this, he adds to his repetoir, constant inclusions of sarcasm and snark--usually aimed at himself, and how he doesn't see how he can have friends. This ties into Karkat being even more self conscious and a lot weaker than he exposes himself to be. He's really quite the wimp. He cries very frequently, he's easily scared, and he's a sucker for trying to keep his friends from getting hurt. He doesn't ever even seem to try and hide that he's scared or that he's upset. Maybe it's because he's always typing in Capslock online as it is, and he's always conveying that he's angry, and online at least, the capslock covers up any fear or sadness that might be overcoming him.
Even though Karkat is considered to be the oh-fearless-leader among his friends, he also seems to have a hard time spurring himself into action. When Eridan snapped and started to blow holes in his friends--he didn't try and stop him. He just stared at the scene in shock, unable to do anything. It wasn't until he realized that he was legitimately in danger, when he spoke to Gamzee who had sobered up and started to go on a homicidal rampage, that Karkat realized he needed to act, realizing that shit just got real. In addition, he's been known to faint at the sight of blood, having done so when Tavros's legs were cut off.
He's really a very pathetic little shit. He's easily upset, and he's very frequently trying to compensate for how easily scared or upset he gets, or for his insecurities. He's very much a normal teenager in the insecurities department, but since he knows that his genetic mutation is something that could get him killed, he's constantly trying to make up for that by being such a hardass. However, beneath the hardass exterior, really is just some lonely kid who doesn't want to be hated for his blood color.
But this doesn't stop that Karkat in general, even without his insecurities is a very angry, crabby and easily annoyed kid, and attempts to start fights with most people, even if he happens to be friends with those people. He's very rarely happy, and he generally is seen scowling, or seething in a fit of rage. More often than not, he's hunched over his computer, throwing at fit at someone, for something very trivial and useless. He doesn't like to explain himself, nor does he like to have people make assumptions about him (or the troll race in particular). But he does have an aspect of jealousy seeming to hover around him, and he usually gets mad when his friends are enjoying themselves--and he isn't.
Karkat obviously has an obsession for power--again, it seems to be because of his desire to want to make up for what makes him inferior to the other trolls. However, even though he generally doesn't get the opportunity to be head honcho, for the most part, he still is trusted as a leader figure, since he's really good at rallying people together in order to follow commands. And if people can't follow his plans, he is very prone to flipping the fuck out.
At his current canon point, Karkat has sort of evolved from the raging, whining and grumpy little prick he is, to someone who seems to genuinely care about his friends. After the events of Gamzee, Eridan, and Vriska going on a 3x Trollian Killing Spree, Karkat started to embrace his friendships with the remaining trolls, treating them as equals, even though he still continued to flip out over the stupidest shit. But despite that, he's become a somewhat more respectful, and caring individual...even if he conveys it somewhat awkwardly.
In addition, Karkat is somehow--and although, very strangely--the relationship and romantic adviser to many of the trolls. This is probably due to Karkat's rather hilarious obsession with troll romantic comedies. He is very aware of how relationships work, and he's inadvertently counseling his friends rather often. Even though he's aware of a redrom (love) based crush from Nepeta, Karkat seems to avoid the idea of matespritship with anyone, probably because he's just an overall asshole and doesn't really want to get wrapped up in his own issues. His moirail (or best friend in this case), happens to be Gamzee Makara, who Karkat has referred to as his "worst best friend", pretty much because of their differing personalities, but regardless the two of them are pretty much bonded together, since Karkat was the only one able to keep Gamzee from continuing a homicidal rampage which took the lives of Nepeta and Equius.
Karkat also has a strong relationship with Sollux. It seems to flip flop often between palerom and something like a very tame blackrom. But it's really just friendly arguing for the most part. Even though he and Sollux are seen arguing a lot, it's clear Karkat cares about him a lot, as he's turned into a sobbing mess both times he's seen Sollux die.
Also, Karkat seems to have something of a crush on Terezi Pyrope, but he responds to most of her advances towards him with his own degree of snarkiness to challenge hers. But he trusts her, since he doesn't seem to be overly upset when she learns of his blood color. The fact alone that he trusts her is in itself, a sign of how he genuinely appreciates her companionship. Along with Terezi, Karkat respects Kanaya quite a bit, pretty much because he thinks she's the only sane troll among them. He considers her to be one of his closer friends, and has gone as far to try and kiss her supposedly dead body in order to revive her. Along with Kanaya, Karkat shows some sort of odd friendship with Eridan, despite how the both of them are on total different ends of the hemospectrum. Even though there's a sort of awkward bond between them, it ends up becoming severed after Eridan starts killing, and admits platonic hatred for him for being a raging dickprince.
Even though Karkat receives platonic friendship from several of the trolls, he doesn't like Equius or Vriska much, thinking that they're both awful people. But he's more considerate towards Equius, since he can sympathize with him, even though he's weirded out by the other. He doesn't like Vriska much, mainly because she's constantly hate flirting with him, and it frustrates him beyond belief.
Regarding the human kids of the game, Karkat is very much not fond of them much. Initially, he thought John Egbert was his kismesis, and that they were fated to be in a hatred quadrant together, but he abandoned the ideal after being rejected. In turn, he got embarrassed and began to troll John backwards through time. With Jade, Karkat seemed to want to be kinder to her than he was to the others. He wound up offending her, and he ended up feeling bad about it, and began to try and make up for his asshole-ish ways towards her.
TL;DR? Karkat is an insecure, angry kid, who hates happy stuff.
ABILITIES: In regards to non-battle based abilities, Karkat fancies himself to be somewhat good with computers. But he's not. He knows a few tricks, but nothing extraordinary, and this probably wasn't even worth mentioning since his ability with computers isn't that great to begin with. He also is quite a snob about romantic comedies, if that counts as an ability. He's also really good at making people hate him. No. No. Let's focus on an ability of Karkat's that actually is useful...
Shit is this is hard.
Imagining a human girl and her dog-sprite version of herself making out? No, that's not helpful.
Staring uselessly as your friend kills your other friends?
Nah, not that either.
Being the one brick keeping your friends from breaking down and dying?
Bingo. There. Let's go with that.
For starters, Karkat, while coming across usually as an unsympathetic dickhole, is actually very supportive as a friend, although sometimes he might convey it in less than obvious ways. Most notably of how he's capable of supporting his friends, is through the simple act of shooshpapping Gamzee, to bring down his homicidal rage. What does this mean? This means that if Karkat gently paps his friends, and essentially play the role of pacifist. While he doesn't exactly start off like this, he does progress into this skill. Even though he doesn't show it, he does come off as being very concerned about the well being of his friends. He's rather frequently getting involved in the lives of his friends, somewhat willing to assist his friends with problems that they might have.
This being said, Karkat is surprisingly good at giving relationship advice to his friends. While it isn't common, Karkat has been known to advise both Eridan and Vriska on their odd relationship situations. This is probably due to the amount of terrible romantic comedies that Karkat likes to indulge in. Therefore, Karkat does have a fair bit of knowledge in regards to the quadrants. That is, as long as it doesn't come to him, because he doesn't even know what it's like to really be in hate with anyone other than himself.
Speaking of hating himself. Karkat is a pro at knowing how to hate yourself. Karkat seems to be rather open to criticizing himself, and pointing out his own fault. And while this might not necessarily be an ability, it sure as hell is a hobby. What is an ability of his, however, is his his uncanny talent at being able to troll the human kids. Granted, it's not all that helpful is it? Neither is thinking he's hot shit at working with computers, when in reality, he kind of sucks.
Since he does live on Alternia, Karkat, like many other trolls is proficient in a weapon of choice, his choice being sickles. Even though he's not one of the more violent trolls, he still has enough skill with the weapons to enable him to survive through playing Sgrub with the other eleven trolls. Along with being skilled with his weapons, Karkat has demonstrated being a very competent leader to his friends. Karkat seems to be rather good at keeping at least a somewhat clear head when it comes to making important decisions, and the others rely on him for this reason. He was a trusted leader by his friends when he initially started in the game, and the trust in him has continued, as he remains a rather satisfactory leader for the surviving trolls, even if he does wind up as a sobbing mess most of the time.
POSSESSIONS:

>PERSONA
The Hanged Man: The Hanged Man is a card that represents Sacrifice, Letting Go, Surrender, Contemplation and things such as giving up on something. Karkat is very much a sacrificial type, even if he does it in unconventional methods. He shows a lot of initiative in preferring the idea of himself getting killed, so his friends might live. The letting go aspect of the Hanged Man also represents how Karkat needs to let go of his insecurities about his blood color and his feeling of being inadequate for his friends. Surrender also ties into this, in that he just needs to give into accepting that he is different, but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing. Contemplation ties in with the amount of inner turmoil Karkat is stricken with, and how he spends so much of his time in self loathing, but is constantly thinking of new methods to make himself seem stronger.
The Moon: The key terms associated with The Moon Arcana, are that of Anxiety, Tension, Psychological Conflict, Fear, Worry and Apprehension. This can define Karkat because of more of his fear that he's going to fuck up, and he's going to be at fault for hurting everyone. He's constantly fighting with himself (quite literally) about how much of a failure he is, and how he's going to let everyone down. He's been thrust into a very stressful situation, and he doesn't know how to handle things. This also conveys that Karkat freaks out a lot over stupid things, as well as the overwhelming fear he's experienced throughout the series, based mostly on him witnessing his friends being killed left and right, and how he was unable to do anything about it.
The Tower: The Tower is a card that represents a lot of negativity and struggles, which is something Karkat is very used to at this point. This cards meanings can be contained to Crisis, Revelation, Sudden Change, an Uncomfortable Environment, and Ruin. This card alone represents a lot about Karkat being thrust into a leaders position once Alternia was destroyed. He was forced to take on a role he was unprepared for, as his species was pretty much entirely wiped out. As this occurred, he came to understand that there were eleven other kids depending on him. It was a scary situation for Karkat, and he had to protect them and keep them alive, as they were all viewing him as the one to lead them from this point on. He was scared, but he had to keep holding on for their sake.
SHADOW: Karkat's shadow looks something like one of the prototyped Sprites of the Homestuck universe(s). It is shaped like a grey-fleshed man, whose legs form into something like a spirit's tail, that has been split in two. One of the tails twists itself behind the shadow and hangs overhead of the man, whose arms are held up in the air. The tail has curled around both of his wrists in the form of the cancer symbol, binding his hands together. His head is handing down low, and it appears as if he's wearing a very old cape. The cape is clinging to the man's flesh in a few spots, with what appears to be little prickers, or spikes, digging in. Around all of these pricks, blaringly bright red seems to be dripping, in the shapes of veins, into a puddle on the floor. The man's chest is actually torn open, and inside, is a heart, that continuously is flashing different colors, but steadily becoming black.. The heart is pulsing rapidly, and continues to get faster, and faster, sticking out of the heart appears to be an arrow. At a close inspection of the man's face, he seems to be crying, but his face is twisted into a grimace, and he is lacking eyes, so the tears are coming from absolutely nowhere. The other tail is extended outward, and split down the middle, directed towards whoever is fighting him. The split is in the shape of a crab's claw, and between the claw, it is stained with various colors.
The symbolism behind this, is that Karkat was a team leader in Sburb, and he was the first one to prototype their dead lusus for the game. The grey man is an homage to the Sufferer/Signless, but he is also representing how Karkat is torturing himself, as well as those he loves. The split tail is holding him in place, and causing him to harm himself, and keeping him from helping anyone, the other side of the tail is how he's harming them, by harming himself (the shadow would be using the claw as an offensive too). The red veins on the shadow is a reference to Karkat's insecurity about his blood color, and how he's terrified of having it exposed for the world to see. This is also a reference to Karkat's guilt about giving the Beta Kid's session cancer. The man's open chest is also a tribute to the arrow that killed the Sufferer/Signless. His heart is beating with different colors as a reference to how there are many blood colors being conveyed through Troll Society, and how Karkat feels that it's his fault that his friends (all trolls of different blood colors) have suffered because of him. He needs to embrace that it was not his fault that these things happened to his friends. (The arrow represents how the Sufferer took the pain for his beliefs, and that there is no need to struggle anymore on Karkat's part). The flashing colors of the heart steadily turning black, is a reference to Karkat's ties with cancer, and in a sense, the heart is steadily turning into a tumor. Finally, the lack of eyes refers to how Karkat is too closed to accepting that he is NOT to blame for what has happened, and he needs to open his eyes and see this clearly on his own.
Karkat's dungeon, however, is going to be somewhat like his world in the game of Sgrub, Land of Pulse and Haze. ( http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Land_of_Pulse_and_Haze ) It's going to appear to be almost volcanic in appearance. The walls of the dungeon are going to be made of a very dark, almost coal like type of rock. Running along the rock, and dripping into trough's around the walls, is what appears to be lava. But instead, it's blood. Bright, candy red, blood. The entire dungeon is misty, and even with the TV world's glasses, it's still rather hard to see, since there's a violet fog clouding the entire dungeon. If someone were to bump into the wall, they'd probably get rather scraped up from the rocky edges. As one goes through the dungeon, there's little hints of whispering in the distance. At first, it just sounds like static, but the deeper people go, the more it becomes clear. From static, it becomes mumbling, from mumbling, it becomes the occasional sentence, usually very demeaning, and as it continues, there will be more and more insults being uttered, seeming to be directed towards Karkat. All of them will be targeting Karkat's insecurities and his fears regarding his blood color, and by the time the final floor is reached, the insults are being screamed. It's tribute to Karkat's constant capslocking and self-loathing, as all of the insults now appear to be coming from a voice identical to Karkat's.

PERSONA ACQUISTION:
Ideally, I would like Karkat to have to face his Shadow in the TV world, since I know that he does have a lot of insecurities and secrets about himself that he would rather not admit to anyone. Even though it would be difficult, he'd eventually accept that he is the Shadow, but it would probably take some encouragement since Karkat does beat himself up a lot already for his faults. But if someone who knew him, or someone who could deal with his attitude were to help him realize that he needs to accept what he is, and that it would only make Karkat stronger, then he'd be sure to accept it.
However, if this does not seem to be possible in the game, I can be persuaded to switch to Karkat shaking the gas station attendants hand (although he'd be confused as to what the gesture meant) or coming into the game with a Persona already awakened.
>SAMPLES
[Karkat walks up to the bulletin board, with his arms crammed into the pockets of the sweatshirts. Grumbling he stands up before the sign and pulls a hand out from his sweatshirt, holding up a folded sheet of paper. He holds it up against the board for a moment. Karkat stares at it briefly before he tries to flatten it out, before he tacks it onto the board. The message reads: "
The fuck do you want?!
[Karkat the barges up to his visitor, nearly grabbing at his visitor's collar, but he stops before shoving his hands back into his pockets, starting to slouch.]
Don't fucking tell ANYONE what you saw me post up there! That shit up there is absolutely none of your fucking business so back the fuck away from that fucking board before I tear you a new one!
[He pulls his hands back out from his pockets, as if about to reach for something, before he sticks them back into the sweatshirt.]
You didn't fucking see me put that up there, got it, asswipe?
[And with that, the kid seems to barge away, as if nothing had happened.]
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:
Karkat didn't know what the fuck it was, but he ran. He ran as fast as his short little legs would carry him. Whatever the thing was that was chasing him had been lecturing him on who he was. Yeah, Karkat got it. He was a fucking wreck of a troll. He was a horrible, depressed, lonely and self conscious little kid who didn't know how to control his emotions. But hearing that sort of thing from anyone other than himself? It felt bad, and he didn't like it. His stomach was in knots as he heard the beast his copy had turned into, chasing him down through the corridors. Karkat felt himself let out a weak little sob as he heard the monster chasing after him, screeching something about how he needed to accept who he was. Yeah, sure, fine! Karkat could accept that he had problems, but did he have to say it aloud? In front of other people? No! That wasn't him! It wasn't in his nature at all to admit these things!
But he was being chased down. He was going to have to say it. He was going to have to accept who he was already, and he was going to just have to swallow his pride. Karkat hated the idea of having to give in and come across as a weak, whiny little piece of shit again, and having to break down into salty, crimson tears once again. He hated to be scared. He hated to be running for his life. But this was one of those times where if he stopped running, he'd be done for, and he knew exactly how to stop this threat. He knew that he had to confront himself and just say those magic words. The magic words that would get this monster to return to it's mirror image of Karkat himself, and allow the troll to keep living, and this time, keep living as a stronger person because of it. It really was not something he was looking forward to doing, but as he continued to run through the corridors, and finding himself consistently afraid that he was going to wind up in a dead end, he realized that he couldn't just wait for the instance of becoming cornered to accept who he was. He had to make this decision, and he had to make it now.
So, Karkat halted. He came to a dead stop and turned around, preparing to face the beast. He could feel his blood pusher pumping rapidly, his head pounding, the nails of his fingers piercing the flesh of his palms, allowing tiny trickles of his freakish blood to dribble free. His head was held low as he struggled to find his voice.
"Hey, fuckass." he choked out as he stood there, trembling as the beast charged towards him. "I get it." His voice was low as he spoke before he looked up. "I'm you, I get it, jackass!" Karkat had a defiant, angry look on his face. "I get it. I'm putting up a fucking front! I'm scared! I'm a fucking wimp! I rely too much on my friends! I'm so caught up in trying to be strong that I can't fucking see that I'm scared, okay!"
And he took a breath. And hoped for the worst.
